Tapiwa Mvula
Associate
Tapiwa is an Associate in our Firm. She joined the firm in 2014 as a legal intern and later joined as an Associate in 2018 after completing her Bachelor of Laws degree (Honours) at the Catholic University of Malawi. Tapiwa is specialized in legal and regulatory aspects of the insurance sector. She heads the Insurance, investment funds, and Pensions practice bloc. She has expertise in insurance contract law, commercial agreements between insurers and banks, investment funds, and other service providers in the insurance industry.
Tapiwa has a deep understanding of the insurance business having worked with several stakeholders in her field including but not limited to Prime Insurance Company Limited, Britam Insurance Company Limited, General Alliance Insurance Limited, Reunion Insurance Company Limited, Plem Construction Limited, Easy Pack Limited, Rainbow paints, Shire Limited, Agro sack Industries, and Anchor Industries.
Tapiwa also takes an advisory role for all Insurance matters and other financial market participants I.e investment funds and asset managers. She has a proven ability to manage large caseloads and developing creative legal strategies in her field. She is also a member of the International Association of Insurance Law.
In recent developments, Tapiwa contributed and published together with Gonjetso Dikiya and Tawela Taona Msiska a guide on Insurance and Reinsurance with the International Comparative Legal Guides providing practical comparative legal guidance in Malawi.
Experience
Advised Eastern and Southern African Trade and Development Bank [TDB] on amendment and restatement of facilities agreements between TDB and Alliance One Tobacco Malawi Limited.
Reviewed and spearheaded the incorporation of Accurat Malawi.
Advised Self Help Africa on the how to manage retrenchments in Malawi, reviewed terms and conditions of service for purposes of restructuring and further provided guidance on the consultations when restructuring terms and conditions of service.
Reviewed United Purpose’s conditions of service and advised on the restructuring of the terms and conditions of service. Further provided guidance on how to conduct consultations in line with the relevant laws in Malawi.
Drafted a sublease Termination and Handover Agreement for Illovo Malawi Limited. Provided an opinion on the validity of the agreement and the capacity of the parties to enter into the agreements and whether the agreement was properly entered.
